It just occurred to me that these portable DAC's should be able to do the same job and figured someone else here must be doing the same thing.Įrgonomically, once the iStreamer is installed it will be completely hidden behind the stereo with only a lightning cable exposed. So, it may be that the iStreamer is a good enough DAC to do the job and that you are right - the car is not a capable environment for noticing the next step up.
The sound between the two sources was now nearly identical. Getting the lightning to USB adapter allowed me to prove this when I was able to connect my Pico as the DAC. Once I was certain that the differences still existed when I was sure the files were identical I figured it had to be the DAC in the lightning to 30-pin adapter. As this was going against everything I believed to be true in high end audio (even though the Denon has an exceptional CD player), I had to get to the source of the issue. It started when I noticed that a CD of the same album sounded considerably better than that coming off my iPhone. I don't trust the mass market stuff made today to handle the DAC portion of their units with care.Īnyhow, the differences are clearly audible to me. Also, part of the point of separating out the DAC is that it can be changed out individually. I'm not interested in changing the stereo - it's a semi-classic car and it has a high-end Denon head unit in it that matches the period. I am looking for a DAC that connects to my iPhone 5s and will output to my car stereo's RCA aux in.Īt the moment I have an HRT iStreamer 12v on order as it appears to be one of the few products expressly designed for this purpose. Recently I've been upgrading the system in my car, and have now come to the point where the DAC appears to be the weak link. I've been out of the forums for a couple of years as my headphone listening needs have been met nicely.
